Abstract

16,898. Baur, E., and Nagel, O. July 23. Wet processes of extracting gold, silver, and platinum.-Salts of gold, silver, and platinum are adsorbed from extremely dilute solutions such as ocean water by carbon such as charcoal, coke, soot, and kieselguhr, or fibrous materials such as wood-pulp, sawdust, and the like. The adsorbing body may be used as a filter, the dilute solution being passed through it, and the product is sufficiently rich for metallurgical working. In the case of carbon, the product is burnt and the ashes treated for the extraction of the metal by known methods.
