[Addition to 14,733/12.] Disk and like mills.-In a modification of the paint or like mill described in the parent Specification, comprising an upper stationary concave stone 1, Figs. 1 and 3, and a lower convex stone 2 which receives an orbital or planetary motion, the step bearing 55 of the shaft 3 of the lower stone is made adjustable on the spur-wheel 56 so that the throw of the stone can be varied. The bearing 55 may be secured to a slotted member 55<a> on the wheel 56. A shaft 58, driven by bevel-gearing 59, 60 from the driving-shaft, extends into the container 63 and carries agitators 64 to mix the paint, which passes by a spout 65 to the aperture in the upper stone. A wheel 51 gearing with a wheel 62 on the shaft 58 is cupped so as to serve, together with a member 52, as a bearing for the swivel 50, and has radial projections 54 engaging in slots 53 in the swivel. The platform 89, which carries a bearing 80 for supporting the wheel 51, is adjustable vertically on pillars 81 by means of nuts 83", which are connected by a chain 85 and operated simultaneously by a hand-wheel 84. Springs 86 are preferably interposed on the pillars 81 between the frame casing 67<a> and the casing 69 of the lower stone, and the disk 1 is secured in position by hand-screws 87, which bear partly on the casing 67<a> and partly on the casing 67 of the upper stone. The casing 67 is hinged at 88 so that it can be swung clear with the stone 1 to allow of cleaning &c. The peripheral scraper 70 is carried by a rod 75 which is secured to a sleeve 74 at the outer end of the arm 73 of a double-armed sleeve 72 loose on the shaft 3. The scraper 71 which acts upon the upper surface of the stone 2 is fixed to a rod 76, which is pivoted at one end 77 to the casing 67 and at the other end is secured to a rod 78 mounted ball-and-socket fashion on the other arm 79 of the sleeve 72. The plate 89 has walls 90 to form an oil-bath for the gearing 51, 62, and an oil-bath is formed in the base 82 of the machine for the gearing 56, 57, 59, 60. The stones may be arranged on their sides, the wheels 56, 57 being then dispensed with and the bearing 55 secured directly to a belt-driven pulley.
