Abstract

13,953. Fletcher, W. T. June 17. Cylinder machines; bed - reciprocating apparatus.-In a web-perfecting cylinder machine of the kind described in Specification 3448/12, in which four continuously-revolving cylinders A, B, C, D co-operate in pairs to print and perfect a web E, each pair engaging formes on a single bed F at alternate strokes, the cylinders are driven through cam-shaped gears K, K, K, so that the speed of those cylinders in engagement with the bed is equal at any moment to the speed of the bed F, which may be driven by various known bed-motions, and the speed of the cylinders during the non-printing portion of their movement is slowed down, so that they carry round only a length of paper equal to the printed portion and margins. In one form of machine, the bed is reciprocated by two sets of gear J, L, M, coupled together and worked by a connecting-rod I from the crank H. In another modification, the travel of the bed is reduced, and inking-ducts &c. are provided at each side of each cylinder, to ink parts of the forme only.
