Abstract

Moving-chamber apparatus for granular materials. - Powdered chocolate &c. is measured by means of buckets which are moved past a flexible scraper to remove excess material and inverted to discharge into a funnel leading to the packet, box, &c. The hopper distributing the material to the buckets has one or more walls mechanically or pneumatically vibrated in order to prevent adherence or conglomeration of the powder, and vibrations are also imparted to the overturned buckets and discharging-funnels. The measuring-buckets 1 are mounted on a shaft 4 in a travelling carriage 2 adapted to be reciprocated by a cam 9. When the carriage moves from the charging position shown in Fig. 1, the buckets pass beneath a flexible scraper 15 and then pinions on the shaft 4 engage fixed racks 19 so that the buckets turn over to discharge into funnels 20. The supply hopper 10 has a wall 11 jigged by a cam 13 and its outlets are controlled by a shutter 16 actuated by the carriage 2. While the buckets are inverted, they and the funnels 20 are vibrated by rods 21 and cams on a shaft 25. The walls of the hopper B may be formed as bags of flexible material alternately inflated and deflated to prevent adherence of the powder. The buckets, hopper, funnels, and co-operating parts may be duplicated, so as to render the apparatus double-acting.
