Abstract

13,465. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. June 10. Purifying oils.-Particles of water suspended in oil are collected by passing the liquid mixture through an electrostatic field formed between two electrodes, one of which has a wall of dielectric material arranged in close proximity thereto. In the form shown, the dielectric comprises a glass or porcelain vessel 2 having an external coating 7 of tin-foil or electrolytically deposited copper, forming one electrode, while the other electrode consists of a tube 9 formed with sharp projections. The liquid mixture is supplied through the tube 9, the water collecting at the bottom and being withdrawn through the tube 6, while the oil is withdrawn from the top through the tube 5.
