Abstract

13,353. Maschinenbau Akt.-Ges. Balcke. June 12, 1912, [Convention date]. Filtering.-Air and gas filters of the type in which cloth is carried on frames 3 so as to form pockets are cleaned by brushes arranged between and travelling -along the. opposite faces of the pockets on the inlet side of the filter. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, rotary cylindrical brushes 6 mounted on parallel spindles in a vertical frame 8 are employed. The rotary motion is transmitted from a crank handle 9 to a spindle 12 carried by the frame, through the medium of a bevel-wheel 11 rotatably mounted on the frame and longitudinally adjustable on the crank spindle, and thence to the brush spindles by bevel-gear 13, 14. The travelling motion of the frame is derived from the spindle 12 by means of pinions 15, 18 engaging toothed racks 16. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the rotary brushes are replaced by brushes 20 which reciprocate in the line of travel. The rotary motion of the crank spindle 21 is transmitted into a rotary-oscillating movement of a spindle 25 by the aid of bevel-wheel sectors 22, 23 mounted in similar fashion to the bevel-wheel 11, Fig. 3, and gearing with a bevelwheel 24, the movement of the spindle 25 being transmitted through chain gearing 26 to pinions engaging stationary toothed racks. A resultant forward travel of the brushes is provided by making the bevel-wheel sectors unequal. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also modifications in which (1) brushes are replaced by beaters which strike the pocket faces during the forward movement of the frame; (2) the filter cloth is cleanedby relaxing it, by cam action, from a normally taut position maintained by springs. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
