Abstract
8193. Clutterbuck, W. A., and Stewart, M. G. Aug. 28, 1912, [Convention date]. Springs, arrangement of and mounting undercarriages on.-The axles of a road vehicle are mounted on the ends of levers D, which are pivotally mounted on the frame through series of involute-shaped springs J arranged within the enlarged ends of the levers. The outer ends of the springs .T have eyes H, Fig. 6, and are secured by bolts to a circular rim F on each lever D. The inner ends are bevelled and lie close together around a central sleeve R. The centre is prevented from rotating by projections M on a fixed disk K, Fig. 7, which engage radial recesses cut in the springs after assembling. Radial movement of the springs is prevented by an annular projection N on a disk L which engages a recess on the opposite sides of the springs. The two disks K, L are clamped together by a bolt S which can be released to enable the position of the springs relative to the disk K to be adjusted. The levers D consist of two plates with a wood filling-piece, and may be stayed laterally to the axles. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also the following modifications. One of the plates of each lever D may itself form the lateral stay. One or more of the springs J may extend from the rim F and have its outer end connected to the axle. Or each spring may be independently applied along a transverse shaft parallel to the axle and have its end connected to the axle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
