6928. Krupp Akt.-Ges. Grusonwerk, F. March 22,1912, [Convention date]. Cores; core-making.- Cores for use in casting the arms of belt pulleys are moulded in apparatus comprising two plates at a fixed angle to each other, and two plates selected from a number of concentric arc-shaped plates arranged to be projected above and lowered to the level of the machine table. The straight plates are rigidly connected to a table 9, Figs. 1 and 4, carried by an hydraulic ram, and adjustable stops 21 carried by the plates limit the amount of projection. The curved plates 7 required are projected by standards 13, which are adjustable radially on the table and have tee heads which engage corresponding slots in the plates. A frame 35 is dropped into the core box to assist in forming the space for the metal of the arms, and plates 38 loosely connected to the standards 13 by bolts and slots and controlled by brackets 53 may project further plates 7 as shown in Fig. 4 to enable one frame 35 to cover a range of sizes. A top frame 34 is secured to the straight plates by projections and recesses engaged by an outwardly sliding movement controlled by a screw 49. Arcshaped portions 41 are detachably secured to the top frame. After ramming, the top frame is removed and the table 9 is lowered withdrawing the straight and curved plates. Towards the end of the' movement levers 30 are actuated to raise a frame carrying lifting-rods 23 to raise the core clear of the lower frame. Fig. 13 shows an arrangement of cores to produce pulleys with arms of cruciform cross-section.
