Ventilating-shaft tops.-A combined up-draught and down-draught ventilator for railway and other vehicles, and for like purposes, has perforated metal screens e, g and segmental valves h fitted in the inlet and outlet passages c, which ara formed, m the device shown, between a hood b and a lower co-axial cylindrical shaft f, both divided by radial partitions o. The hood b is secured by links s, and the valves h are carried by vertical rods i and a cross-shaped yoke j. The rods i pass through rubber or other friction-producing washers n, which uphold the valves but allow them to be adjusted by means of the finger-piece k.
