Abstract
6405. Baker, G. R. March 14. Extrusion machines; feeding and measuring.- To obtain high pressure on soap, in order to render it suitable for subsequent treatment such as forcing through dies, moulding, caking, &c., it is passed through a restricted passage between forcing- rolls a, b, into a nozzle y, the inlet of which is of a width substantially equal to the distance between the rolls at their closest points, and which diverge gradually from this inlet, the rolls and nozzle being constructed so as to provide a layer of soap for contact with the passing material. The rolls are provided with circumferential grooving c adapted to become filled with soap and the nozzle, which is applied as closely as possible to the rolls, is provided with inner walls d forming scrapers and having rounded ends d<2> so as to form pockets j, which become filled with soap, causing the material to travel roughly along the stream-lines z. The scrapers d are adjustably arranged within the nozzle.
