3841. Marks, E. C. R., [Barrett Manufacturing Co.]. Feb. 14. Coating - compositions; impregnating - compositions. -A waterproof covering for floors, walls, &c., consists of a flexible, porous material, such as felt, impregnated with a waterproof bituminous composition, coated with a mixture of colloidal organic glutinous substance and a relatively non-absorbent, insoluble, inorganic filler, and finally with a finishing-coating. The bituminous composition may consist of oils distilled from asphalt, or petroleum residues, or, according to the Provisional Specification, asphalt. The priming-coating may consist of soluble casein, such as ' shac lac glue,' dissolved in water and mixed with powdered shale, such as ' talckene,' or other hard non-porous minerals, or materials of an aluminiferous nature. The finishing coating may consist of linseed oil, pigment, and gloss oil (a resin dissolved in benzene &c. and mixed with lead or lime driers, with or without a little linseed oil), thinned with naphtha. A second finishing coating consisting of linseed oil, varnish, and pigment may be applied. The surface is printed, embossed, &c.
