Abstract
3763. Kehrhahn, A. H. March 23, 1912, [Convention date]. Rotating - tool machines.-In a machine for fleshing &c., both halves of the skin are successively treated from the centre to the ends by two separate rolls, by reversing the direction of the feed. The machine has two tool cylinders 2, 3 and feed rolls 4, 5 rotating continuously in the directions shown bv the arrows in Fig. 1. The bed-roll 6' may be moved to the position 6, Fig. 2, by means of gearing 9, 10 and a crank-rod and lever 8, 7, the motion being started by a pedal 12 and ceasing automatically at the end of the swing. In the position shown in Fig. 1, the last part of the skin 13' is being worked by the tool 2. At the moment when the skin 13<1> drops down out of the machine, the operator depresses the pedal and causes the roll 6<1> to move to the position shown in Fig. 2 and engage the skin 13 (previously held in readiness, as shown at 13 in Fig. 1), causing one half of it to pass across the tool 3, as shown hv the arrow. When this half has been worked, pressure on the treadle throws the roll 6 to the position 6' and the second half of the operation is effected by the tool 2. To prevent the skin from overrunning when the first half has been worked, the feed-roll 5 is driven through a clutch which is freed when the treadle is depressed, and a brake is simultaneously applied to the roll 5. While the roller 6 is moving to the position 6', a small rotation is imparted to it by the driving-teeth of the fixed roll 5 so as to turn it in the opposite direction to that in which the weight of the hanging skin acts. This rotation is sufficient to prevent the skin from falling during its transfer from the tool 5 to the tool 4. The rolls 3, 5 and 2, 4 may alternatively be mounted in pairs on rocking- frames to co-operate with a stationary supporting-roll. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states that the clutch and brake are operated by a cam on the lower countershaft; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
