Catalytic or contact apparatus. - Apparatus for the catalytic treatment of mixtures of gases, such as hydrochloric acid or sulphurous acid and air, is provided with alternately superposed contact .and heat exchanging - chambers I. R2, respectively, which communicate directly with each other the gas supply pipe to the first contact chamber having branch pipes at intervals to the several heat exchanging-chambers for the regulation of the temperatures in the several parts of the apparatus. The regulation is effected by controlling the amount of gas passing through these chambers by means of regulating-valves V1, V2.
