Abstract
1176. Weguelin, W. H. Jan. 15. Fountain - pen fillers. -A delivery device, of the kind applied in place of a cork to ink or like bottles for filling fountain pens or the like, and in which the flow is automatically stopped when the liquid is at the desired height in the pen &c., consists of a cork or the like fitted with an air-vent, preferably having a small orifice, and a small ink-outlet tube of such an internal diameter and projecting to such an extent that a slow stream flows out when the bottle is inverted, and the flow either stops completely or drops very slowly when the bottle is inclined, or when the pen &c. is filled to a certain extent above the end of the tube. The inlet end of the air-vent is close to the cork to provide a constant head of pressure until the bottle is practically empty. Fig. 1 shows the air-vent in the form of a U-tube b with the outer end c at the top of the cork a, and the inner end d just below the cork; g is the inkoutlet tube. The outer end c of the air-vent may be provided with an automatic valve e, or may be funnel-shaped to be closed by the finger, or may be at the side of the cork instead of at the top.
