Abstract

968. Kilburn, B. E. D., [Standard Auto Spring Wheel Co.]. Jan. 13. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and helical springs.-A ring 28, Figs. 2 and 4, on the axle-box, and an inner rim 13 connected to the outer rim 18 by spokes, are formed with sockets in which are fitted the ends of telescopic spring elements capable of oscillation. The main spring 21 abuts against both ends; the spring 22 is short and acts only on excessive displacement. The hub-socket 27 is semicylindrical, and the outer socket is hemispherical and formed in an outwardly-removable block 33. Between the integral axle-box flange 11 and a plate 14 secured to the rim 13 is interposed a floating plate, Fig. 5, formed on each side with parallel grooves 39, 40, of dovetail section, which are perpendicular and engage corresponding ribs. Packing 49 is placed between the axle-box flanges 11, 12 and the plates 14, 15.
