Abstract
672. Bulfin, I. Jan. 9. [Cognate Application, 14,243/13.] Electric tramcars, railmay motor-cars, and locomotives. - To prevent side-swing of electric tramcars and like rail vehicles, means are provided (a) to prevent lateral movement of each motor relatively to the frame, or (b) to prevent the motors at opposite ends of the vehicle from executing simultaneous lateral movements in opposite directions. Fig. 1 shows two methods of coupling the two motors of a tramcar so that they cannot execute independent lateral movements simultaneously in opposite directions. In the one method, the two casings are connected by rigid bars E, and in the other method by a strut F<1> and tie-bar F. Fig. 2 shows two methods of preventing lateral movement of the motors. In the one method an adjustable abutment G<1> b e a r s against each motor casing and maintains one of the lugs D' in engagement with the corresponding gear wheel K. A tie-rod H prevents the abutments from buckling the frame. In the other method, two abutments M on a crossmember M<1> bear against lugs A<3> on the motor casing. The abutments M may be formed on the free end of tension rods secured to the remote side of the frame.
