Abstract
463. Schiesari, M. Jan. 7. Fixed-abutment type. - In an hydraulic change-speed gear, particularly applicable to motor-vehicles, the liquid discharged by the pump can be caused to act on a single driven rotor in one or more compartments arranged side by side, the pressure liquid being conducted to all compartments whether acting or not. The rotary pump, Fig. 2, is of the outwardlysliding vane type, its controlling-valve 42 being shown in the position for reversed running. In its forward running position, the pressure liquid is supplied through the ducts 41 to all the compartments of the motors 5, the controlling-valves 4 being situated between the discharge of the motors and the suction of the pump. In Fig. 10, a form of the rotor is shown in which the divisions are formed by transverse ribs 6<11> on the rotor itself, these divisions being of unequal size. The discharge of fluid from the motor is controlled by the valve 18<1>, of which three sections are shown in Fig. 12, corresponding to the three divisions A, B, C, Fig. 10. In the position shown, the conduit 3' is closed, so that no liquid can reach the rotor, while the pumped liquid circulates idly through the passages 41, 3. This position corresponds to stoppage of the rotor, since the liquid cannot circulate, and thus a braking effect is obtained. By suitably positioning the valve 18<1>, seven speeds are obtainable by combining the working spaces A, B, C. In another form of rotor, only one of the compartments is brought into action at one time, the section excluded being short-circuited.
