Abstract

191,261. Powling, W. T. Dec. 13, 1921. Food for animals.-The finer portion of the residuum after the extraction of fat from meat or fish, offal and bone by steam, is formed into granules by first treating it with steam to cause the particles to adhere and then treating in a moulding-machine or kibbling-mill. If the animal meal contains insufficient albumen, glue, &c. to bind the particles, albumen, protein matter or other binder may be added and other substances may be added preferably during the cooling and agitating process which may follow the treatment with steam. The material may be granulated between calenders having recessed surfaces which may be heated to dry the granules externally. The material may be carried by a conveyer through a drying chamber. According to the Provisional Specification, flour may be added as an ingredient of the granules, and a binder which does not require the application of moisture and heat may be employed.
