Abstract

Stub switches; mechanically operated from the vehicle.-In a tramway or like junction, only one of the rails is provided with a movable switch which is of the known type comprising a circular table having a branch and main line junction rail thereon, and means are provided for locking the switch in its two set positions and for operating the same mechanically from the vehicles. In the construction shown, the junction table is adapted to oscillate on balls E mounted in the top of an annular wall E<1> formed integral with the bed-plate G. In the well formed by this wall, a depending part H on the table pivotally carries a rod J adapted to engage recesses in the fixed block K so as to lock the switch in its extreme positions. The switch and locking-device are operated from the vehicles through a rod M connected to a circular plate L adapted to be oscillated on an upstanding part L<3> of the bed-plate shaped as shown, whereby the plate L is raised and lowered when oscillated and the locking arm lifted out of the locking recesses. For operating the switch, the vehicles are provided with a depressor at each side which can be made to depress corresponding pivoted levers S' arranged on the inside of the track rails and connected as shown to a transverse shaft N to which the rod M is connected. The Provisional Specification also states (a) that an additional guide slot is formed in the switch table whereby if a vehicle is backed on to the switch from the line for which it is not set the vehicle will not be de-railed; (b) that the periphery of the switch table and the edge of the surrounding frame are bevelled outwards and downwards; and (c) that the plate L may be mounted to rotate on rollers supported by vertical spindles and slotted at one or several places, each slot being formed with upwardlyinclined ends and an intermediate level portion into which a fixed pin engages for locking purposes.
