Reciprocating-saw machines.-In a frame saw for cutting thin planks from a solid log, the cutting loss is reduced by using very thin saws 2 which are kept cool by currents of air from inclined nozzles 6, 7, arranged opposite one another. The nozzles 6, 7 may have a single wide outlet or several outlets inclined to one another. The saw-blade tangs are of the same thickness as the blades, and at their upper ends are pivoted head-pieces 12 engaged by bifurcated wedges 14 for securing the blades. The engaging surfaces of the head-pieces 12 and wedges 14 are undercut and bevelled respectively. The heads of the saw blades are held in position, with interposed spacing-pieces 18 if desired, by means of a screw 15 and plates 16, 17.
