Soaps, materials for making.-Resin soap is produced from wood by treating the wood with soda lye &c. in presence of a reducing-agent, such as sulphur dioxide, a sulphite, or a hydrosulphite at about 90‹ C. under a pressure of two to three atmospheres. If the wood is rich in resin, part of the terpenes is removed by distillation with steam before the lixiviation.
