Abstract
27,496. Jones, E. H. Nov. 29. [Cognate Application, 12,065/13.] Welding.-In the electric welding of metal parts end to end by the low-voltage process of the type in which the work and a roller electrode are connected to the terminals of the electric circuit, cooling-fluid is circulated through the roller. The edges of the parts may be flanged, formed with beads or provided with an inter mediate glutting strip. In the form shown in Fig. 1, one terminal of the circuit is connected at A<1> to a hoop, the edges D<2> of which are flanged. The other end of the circuit is connected at A<2> to a welding-tool having a pair of insulated handles B and a welding-roller A and being perforated for the passage of air or water. A single handle may be used at right-angles to the form shown in Fig. 1 when the tool is used for connecting a pipe endways to a strip of metal by a piece of interposed wire. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the welding- roller A is secured by a screw to a sleeve E in contact with terminals A<2> on the handle-bar F, and contains a grooved stud having an interior conduit G<2> connected to the water supply. According to the second Provisional Specification, the parts may be inclined towards each other.
