C i r c u l a t i n g fluids through materials.-Apparatus for moistening yarn or fabrics by passing a current of moist air through them comprises a conditioning- chamber a fitted with a thermometer j, a fan' b and piping c for circulating moist air therein, and doorways m, m for the passage of wagons k or other apparatus for supporting the yarn &c. The circulating air is moistened by the action of water troughs t, placed across the chamber a, to which are connected vertical wire sheets &c. w; water, pumped from troughs t' under the sheets w in the bottom of the chamber to the upper troughs t, overflows down the sheets. The piping g, g<1> through which the water is pumped is fitted with one or more steam injectors i for heating the current. The upper troughs t have serrated edges for the passage of the water which flows down guide-plates f to the wire sheets w. The injectors i are each provided with a regulating-valve to control the temperature, and the thermometer j is fitted to the pipe g<1>. The cotton or woollen yarn in cops, bobbins, cheeses, hanks, &c., or the textile fabrics, are contained for treatment in skeps s. If the chamber a is erected in the open, it is preferably provided with a double roof to avoid the dropping of condensed moisture on the material; for the same reason the roof should slope.
