Abstract

26,293. Delmas, -T. May 3. Composite and helical springs; dash-pots; connexions, attachments, and adjustments applicable generally for tensile and compressive springs.-Relates to vehicle shock-absorbers of the kind in which helical springs are interposed between the lid of a casing pivoted to one laminar spring and a plate carried by a pair of rods which are pivoted to the other laminar spring and slide in guide-sockets in the lid of the casing. According to the invention, the pin that serves to pivot the casing to the vehicle spring rests in holes in the guide-sockets in the lid, and is prevented by the rods from endlong movement. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a pair of rods 2, 3, attached by a crossbolt 5 to the end of the vehicle suspensionspring, carry at their lower ends a plate 4, and are adapted to slide in guide-sockets 1<a> in the lid of a cylindrical box 10, which is pivoted to the vehicle frame-spring by a pin 6, the ends of which rest in holes in the sockets 1<a> and abut on the rods 2, 3. Between the plate 4 and the lid of the box 10 are arranged a number of helical springs 7, 8, 9, which are either of equal strength and are arranged to operate simultaneously, or are of unequal strength and are arranged to operate successively. The casing 10 may be filled with oil, in which case the guide-sockets 1<a> are arranged to act as stuffing-boxes. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes (1) a device in which the helical springs are placed end to end, and are of different resiliencies for progressive action, and (2) means for adjusting the distance between the plate 4 and the lid of the casing to vary the resiliency of the spring. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
