Abstract

Mariners' compasses.-A revoluble azimuth fitting comprises primary and secondary reflectors j, k, of which the latter is so mounted in the tube m beside the lens l that an observer can see in juxtaposition the compass reading and an upright image of the object sighted by reflection in the two mirrors. The counterbalanced mirror j can be secured in any position, being preferably stiffly mounted in pivots on upstanding arms q. Screens x, y are provided and so arranged that the screen x lies between the two mirrors or between the observer and the second mirror ; in the latter case the screen y lies between the two mirrors. A shadow pin v is fitted.
