Bell-operating mechanism; mechanical and pneumatic; bell strikers; bell sounding-members, construction of.-An alarm device for motor and other vehicles comprises a bell adapted to be continuously rotated, and means operated by Bowden or other control mechanism whereby the bell is sounded when desired. In the construction shown, the bell a is secured to or formed integrally with the cooling-fan s of the vehicle motor, and is sounded by moving one or more hammers d into contact with one or more projections c formed on the inside or outside of the bell. The hammer is mounted on the spring blade n secured to the rocking lever m connected to the Bowden control wire e. The movements of the blade n are limited by stops o, o<1> on the lever m, which in turn is limited by the stops p. The stop o<1> may be dispensed with. The bell may be secured to any suitable rotating part on the. vehicle, such as the crank shaft, wheel axle, or magneto, or it may form the boss or hub of the radial fan blades s and may then be rotated by the impinging air ; or the engine fly-wheel may be formed'so as to serve as the bell. The strikers may be formed by a ball projecting from the reduced end of a tubular member mounted on trunnions and fitted with a spring to hold and return the ball to its seat. A number of bells may be mounted on a common axis and arranged within a rotary or stationary bell or trumpet.
