Abstract

21,117. Hornby, F. Sept. 17. Spring power-storing mechanism for building into a working model. The spring 1, coiled about a main arbor 3, is attached to a post 2, and the main arbor, which is squared for a winding-key, is geared up through wheels 4, 7, 8 to a terminal arbor 9 carrying a governor 11 and a brake disk 10. A lateral wheel 20 being provided in gear with the second wheel 7, the power is transmitted with either direction of rotation to a delivery arbor 22 through an idle wheel 25 on a reversing-lever 24. A shifting- wheel 31 may also be provided to pass the power to one of two delivery shafts 33, 34. As a modification, the train to the governor is disposed vertically and the reversing-gear laterally. The frame-plates 14 are perforated by equidistant holes and by slots 38 whereby the motor may be connected to standard or non-standard perforated parts of the models. The brake for the disk 10 is of one of the two following forms : - (1) A pin 16, Fig. 6, carried by a barrel mount 12 is normally pressed against the disk by a spring within the mount but can be set out of contact by turning its milled head 17, the barrel and head having coacting cam surfaces 19. (2) A lever 16<a>, Fig. 11, thrust outwards by a spring on its pivot, has a spring finger 16b to bear on the disk 10<a> when the lever is turned towards it.
