Abstract

20,641. La Chapelle, E. I. Sept. 10. Turn-shoes, machines for.-A shoe is turned by the co-operation of clamping-members 6, 8, provided with gripping- surfaces 7, 9 for the heel, with a roller 5, which is pivotally supported at the upper end of a rod 4, and is adapted to break the sole. The member 6 consists of a spring- pressed sleeve surrounding the upper end of the rod 4, and is normally secured to the rod by a locking-bolt 21, while the member 8 is slidably secured to the member 6 by being formed with curved slots 10 mounted on bearing-screws 11. The member 8 is connected by adjustable rods 16 to a treadle, which is adapted to be lowered in two steps. In the first part of its movement, the member 8 swings on the member 6 and clamps the heel of the shoe, and the sole is partly broken over the roller 5. The heel and toe parts of the shoe are then turned by hand, after which the treadle is further depressed, causing members projecting from the member 8, and acting through the connexions shown, to release the locking-pin 21; the members 6, 8 thereupon move downwards together on the rod 4, with the result that the roller 5 runs up inside the toe and completes the turning of the forepart of the shoe.
