Hair switches and artificial tresses.-Consists in a machine for making tresses or fringes in which lengths of hair 102, Fig. 12, are woven between warp threads 39, 43, 45, by a reciprocating carrier 93, the warp threads being carried by shuttles traversed at right - angles to the throw of the carrier. The shuttles 31, 32, 33, Figs. 4 and 5, are actuated by pins 66, 67 mounted. on slides 55, 56, 57 operated by springs 64, 65, Fig. 2, secured to the ends of levers 17, 18, 19, Fig. 1, the latter being rocked by eccentrics 13, 14, 15. The sliding rod 74 normally locks the slides by the pins 83, Fig. 5, and only releases them when the rocking levers are hard over, by entering the notches 81, 82 in the reciprocating bar 78. The carrier 93 is actuated by the rod 86 sliding vertically in the reciprocating bar 78 and constrained to follow the curvature of the grooves 90. It comprises a spring clip 94, Figs. 7 and 8, adapted to be released when the finger 98 is engaged by the bent arm carried by the manually-operated slide 99. Normally it is held vertical by springs 106, 107; but it can take an inclined position as the available length of hair 101, Fig. 12, becomes shorter. The loose hair is held on a table 103, Figs. 1 and 11, provided with a notch 105 where the carrier 93 may be brought to rest for the insertion of fresh strands. As the fringe is completed, it is wound by hand on the pulley 49, Figs. 4 and 5.
