Abstract
20,363. Hansen, J. H. G. C. Sept. 6. Refrigerating, cold-air and like processes for.-Compressed carbonic acid or other suitable gas enters a chamber a by the pipe h, and expands from the lower to the upper part of the chamber through two perforated plates e, e' which may be adjusted, relatively to one another, to vary the effective opening. From the upper part the expanded gas passes by means of apertures f into a surrounding vessel b, which is enclosed within a heat-insulating layer b<1> in an outer shell g, provided with a door d giving access to the expansion chamber. The gas may leave the apparatus by a pipe i leading to a storage vessel k for food &c., or may pass directly into the external air by valves l which deliver it so as to rotate fans m. A thermometer n is arranged with its stem depending into the expansion chamber. The chamber may be further subdivided by the provision of other pairs of perforated plates.
