Abstract

Stop-gear.-In a motor tilling and excavating machine, pneumatic apparatus is provided for automatically breaking the spark-plug circuit, and thus stopping the engine, when the digging- mechanism is obstructed. While the machine is running, an eccentric 122 on the shaft 79 actuates an air-pump piston 124 in a cylinder 125 and forces air through a check valve 127 in a diaphragm 126. The air forces up a piston 129 against the action of a spring 133 and escapes through an outlet 131. The movement of the piston actuates a switch 137 and thus connects the two wires 134, 136 of the sparkplug circuit. When the digging-mechanism is obstructed, the shaft 79 stops, the air leaks through a pet cock 130, and the piston 129 falls, thus moving the switch 137 and stopping the engine. The pump is provided with a relief valve 128. The engine is started by means of a hand-switch 138 which is opened after the switch 137 is closed.
