Abstract
18,966. Saurer, A., [Firm of] and Schlatter, G. Aug. 19. Tipping wagons.-In a motor-driven tip-wagon having a body adapted to tip about either side of the car frame, means for looking the body on each side are provided and so connected to a hand-lever that both sides are locked when the lever is in its central position and one or other side is released to enable the body to tip about the opposite side when the lever is in either of its extreme positions. The body is tipped by concentric screw mechanism operated by a handlever at the rear of the vehicle. Fig. 12 shows the locking-arrangement diagrammatically. The body rests by means of four globular bearings 19 upon four globular pivots 3 on the underframe. The pivots 3 and bearings 19 on each side are bored to take enlarged portions of a common shaft 6. Flats are formed on the enlarged portions of the shafts 6 as shown so that when the shaft is turned to bring the flats into a vertical position, gaps 21 in the sides of the bearings 19 may pass over the reduced portions, thus enabling that side of the body to be lifted. The shafts 6 have arms 9 at their rear ends which are connected by links 73 to a three-armed lever 71, 72. When the arm 71 is vertical the flats on both shafts 6 are horizontal and the body is locked to the underframe at both sides, but when the arm is turned into either horizontal position the flats at one side or the other become vertical while the others remain horizontal as shown. A spring catch on the body and springs 79 on the underframe hold the arm 71 in its three positions. The lever 71, 72 is mounted concentrically on the bearing of the shaft which actuates the tipping-mechanism. This consists of two screw devices arranged on the centre line of the underframe, the rear device being shown in Fig. 9. A two-part casing 30 is pivoted in a frame 28 which can rock about a transverse axis on the underframe. The squared end of a shaft 62 extending from the rear of the vehicle enters a recessed head 60 of a shaft 31 which drives a bevel-wheel 32. The wheel 32 gears with a bevel-wheel 33 on a sleeve 34 which is retained in the casing 30 by a nut 36 with interposed ball bearings. The sleeve 34 has an internal thread which gears with a thread on a tube 37 which also has an internal thread gearing with a solid screw 38. The screw 38 is connected by a ball joint 40 to a two-part casing 41 on the centre line of the body. The parts of the casing 41 are held together by a bolt 45 which passes through a slot 46 in the ball joint 40. Stops 58, 59 on the screws 37, 38 engage the ends of the internal threads on the sleeves 37, 34 when the device is extended. Lubricating-passages 51 are provided. A collapsible dust protector 56 may be secured to the casing 30 and bearing 41 by ring-and-groove connexions as shown. A second wheel 32 gears with the wheel 33 and drives a shaft 70 connected to the other screw device. The rear end of the shaft 62 is mounted in a bearing capable of rocking and the squared ends shown of the shafts 62 and 70 are rounded longitudinally to permit rocking.
