Abstract

18,736. Furse, A. D. Aug. 15. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Composition fuel.-In a process for converting town or other refuse into briquettes or the like, involving selection, partial disintegration, pulverization, and agglomeration, for example as described in Specification 21,192/11, but not drying, the screen portion of the selecting- device is vibrated to prevent clogging. The selecting-device may be a rotary cylindrical screen D having end and central grooved peripheral rings C connected by longitudinal bars E and adapted to be chain-driven from a shaft F, the axis of the screen being inclined. The internal periphery of the screen carries say four pivoted beaters G each adjacent to a plate L and adapted, when brought by clockwise rotation to the dotted position, to fall by gravity and strike the adjacent plate. A set of beaters may be arranged on either side of the central ring, or may lie on a helix disposed longitudinally in the screen to make the vibrations more continuous; or the beaters and plates may be outside the screen and operated from the shaft F. Chloride of lime or other liquid or solid disinfectant may be sprayed into the material before or after selection.
