Abstract

18,675. Hayot, L. A. Sept. 18, 1911, [Convention date]. Balancing automatically. The longitudinal balance of an aeroplane is maintained by a steering-plane controlled through a servomotor by a weighted bell-crank lever L<1>, L<2> pivoted about a transverse axis a to the frame of the machine, The lever is connected to the slide valve of the servomotor by the rod b. Springs R, r maintain the lever in or return it to the normal position in which the arm L<1> is vertical. Owing to its inertia, the lever lags during accelerations and angular oscillations about a transverse axis of the machine and operates the slide valve of the servomotor. For lateral balance, the controlling-device comprises a vertical weighted lever such as the lever L<1> pivoted about an axis longitudinal of the machine.
