Circular machines.-The type of striping, spotting, &c. mechanism such as is described in Specification 12,552/08 is provided with mechanism whereby some of the plaiting or embroidery guides 2 may be placed out of action without affecting the working of the remaining guides. The guides 2 are carried by a vertically-movable slide and are operated by a cam 5; the guides are placed out of action as a whole by raising the sleeve until the cranked parts 6 are opposite the cam 5. Some of the guides are provided with butts or heels 7, and when a surrounding ring 8 is depressed on to the butts 7 the corresponding guides are placed out of action, while the cam 5 will continue to operate the guides unprovided with butts 7. The ring 8 is mounted on guides 10, 12, and is normally held in the inoperative position by a spring 13, but can be depressed by a lever 15 under control of pattern mechanism. The butts 7 may be placed at different levels a, b, Fig. 5, so as to be brought into operation by the ring 8 at intervals.
