Abstract
17,307. Knapen, A. Oct. 17, 1911, [Convention date]. Ventilation systems; ventilators, terminal.- Air - ducts arranged at different heights and with various aspects in the outer walls of the building co-operate with ventilating apertures of alternating cross-sectional area arranged in the interior walls &c., to produce a through ventilation of the apartments under all conditions. Fig. 1 shows a cross-section of a building in which air-ducts 1, 2 are arranged above and below the window frames 5. Ventilating- apertures 3 are cut in the doors 9, 10 which communicate with the apartments 6, 7 from the apartment 8. The aperture in the upper part of the door 8 is of the same cross-section as that in the lower part of the door 10, and the aperture in the upper part of the door 10 is of the same area as that in the lower part of the door 9. The apertures are provided with hit-and-miss valves in which twice as many slots 19 are provided in the fixed part 17, Fig. 12, as in the movable part 16, Fig. 9. The ducts in the outer walls are provided with adjustable valves. The ducts are sloped so that the lowest portion of the duct on the inner wall is at the same level as the highest portion of the duct on the outer wall.
