Abstract

17,039. Lister, C. H. July 22. Casting-machines; metal-pouring; castings; moulds.-An endless-chain moving-mould machine for casting sash weights &c. has a special arrangement of details. The chain is driven at 15, Fig. 1, and supported by guide-rails 19, 20. The mould carriers 21 carry lugs 40, Fig. 5. which engage an arm 38 pivoted to the frame and slotted to engage a pin on a ladle carriage 32 to traverse it with the moulds during tipping by a hand-lever 37 to effect pouring. The ladle is traversable in the carriage by crank and pinion 36. A spring 39 returns the carriage to contact with a stop 41 after the lug passes from engagement with the arm. To maintain the ladle stationary during refilling, as from a furnace 42, the stop 41 is adjustable to permit the spring to move the carriage so that the arm is out of the path of the lugs. After filling, the moulds are carried through a cooling-tank 29, and an inclined rail 27 engages a roller on a bell-crank 23 to open the mould. The lugs 40 then engage a bellcrank 43 to eject the castings, and a second inclined rail 28 closes the moulds. The links 24 and setscrews 25 are so adjusted that the closing-mechanism is self - locking. The moulds retain sufficient heat to become dry before refilling. A modified form of mould to produce a number of castings is described.
