Abstract

16,789. Trott, R. S. July 20, 1911, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Springs, arrangement of; guiding longitudinal play of axles.-Relates to spring arrangements for absorbing vertical and longitudinal shocks in vehicles, and consists in connecting the axle by stays with a member guided longitudinally on the frame against the action of springs, so that the axle remains at right-angles to the line of draught. Fig. 2 shows the front and rear axles of a motor-vehicle provided with springs 3, 4 respectively for taking vertical shocks and helical spring systems 9, 10, operating between the axles and members 8 depending from the vehicle frame, which absorb longitudinal shocks. Braces 12, extending from the end of each axle to members 13, 17 sliding on rods 14, 18 on the vehicle frame, serve to guide the axle longitudinally so as to keep it at rightangles to the line of draught. Fig. 3 shows in plan a semi-elliptic transverse spring 21, pivotally connected with the frame for absorbing vertical shocks, and a plate spring 24 for longitudinal shocks. Fig. 4 shows an elliptic spring 26, pivotally connected with the frame at 27 for absorbing vertical shocks, and a plate spring 28, connecting the elliptic spring and the frame, for absorbing longitudinal shocks. Fig. 5 shows the helical spring system 9, 10 arranged between the shackle 31 of the semi - elliptic spring 30 and the member 8 depending from the frame. Fig. 6 shows the plate spring 33 for longitudinal shocks mounted between the shackle 32 and the frame, the link 35 taking the place of the longitudinal guide shown in Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5.
