Abstract
14,491. Diplock, B. J. June 20. Portable-track wheels.-Relates to vehicles supported on endless chains of feet running on rails carried by the body of the vehicle. The feet 5 are carried by rods 25 suspended from carriers 10. Brackets 11 on the carriers support pivoted slippers 14 travelling on spring roller chains 15 bearing on the rails 8. Other slippers 23 bolted to the tops of the carriers travel over chains 24 on rails 9. The slippers 14, 23 are drawn together by springs 19 on the bolts 17. To prevent lateral displacement. the chains have a second series of rollers bearing on vertical webs on the rails. The carriers are driven by sprockets at each end of the rail frames, and, in passing over the curved parts of the rails, are lifted from the chains, the connecting-rods 34, 35 of the carriers having an extensible connexion shown in Fig. 6. The springs 30 fitted between the shoes 5 and nuts 28 on the rods 25 are sufficiently strong to prevent displacement of the shoes in normal running. As shown in Fig. 10, the links 43, 45 of the roller chain are separated by springs 44, 46.
