Abstract

13,039. Haddan, R., [National Cash Register Co.]. Nov. 22, 1911. Cash registers with operating-means; zeroizing-mechanism.-Zeroizing-mechanism for the totalizers of cash registers is arranged to be operated only by authorized persons, and is provided with a counter for the number of times it is operated. The apparatus is shown applied to a machine of the class described in Specification 26,171/11. The totalizer wheels are arranged to be turned, the unit wheel to zero and the rest to the ' nine ' position on the positive stroke, and the transfer mechanism is operated to bring all to zero on the return stroke of the operating-mechanism. The counter spindle 55 is rotated by gearing from a segment 152 operated by an upright 153 attached to the tablet-operating bar 24. On the down stroke of the bar a similar segment 123 operates a pinion 125 to actuate the transfer-actuating shaft 110. The pinion 125 is loose on the shaft but has a pawl 128 to engage a channel in a sleeve 126 fast on the shaft. During the upward movement of the bar 24 the pawl moves idly round the sleeve but drops at the end of the turn into the groove, at the same time that a check pawl 129 is lifted therefrom by a pin 131 on the segment 123. The return movement turns the shaft 110, the pawl 129 now riding loosely on the sleeve. The shaft 55 is connected to the driven pinion 139 by a clutch, of which one member is attached to the pinion 139 loose on the shaft and the other member is slotted to engage , a stud on the shaft and has a groove engaging the bolt 147 of a lock 146 for use by an authorized person. A projection 148 on the bolt actuates an operation counter 150 for the lock.
