Stands; connexions. - Storage shelves or stands, for charging small accumulators of hand lamps and the like, are provided with charging- contacts consisting of vertical spring plungers having a large range of movement to connect with terminals on the tops of cells of different heights. To prevent wrong connexion, the contacts B, C, Fig. 1, of opposite signs may respectively be recessed or pointed, or they may be concentric, as shown at B', C', the cellterminals D, E being made to correspond. The shelves A, made of insulating-material such as earthenware, have positioning projections or recesses A' fitting corresponding parts at the bottom of the cells. Partitions may divide the shelves into compartments for one or more cells. The stands may be rotary. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6, the contacts B, C, connected by sleeves N, are carried by a vertically-movable bar O, the ends of which rest in bayonet-slots P and in the position shown in Fig. 6 make contact with parts R connected to the supply. The source of charging - current may be a motorgenerator, having an extended spindle which carries buffing disks or brushes for cleaning, or tools for opening miners' lamps. According to the Provisional Specification, (1) the shelves may receive the lamp-parts as well as the cells; (2) a table may have contacts on pillars, or on tubes or rails supported by them; (3) connexion may be made by twin-plugs at the side of cells, or by concentric terminals placed in a recess at the base and connected to the electrodes by conductors attached to or embedded in the cellwalls; (4) cell-terminals of opposite sign are different in size and project through corresponding slots in a guard-plate.
