Abstract

11,484. Thompson, W. P., [Ogden, F. C.]. May 14. Cutting chenille &c.-Cloth from a roll 6, after passing over a tension rod 7, a rod 8 and rollers 9, 12, 13, is guided to pairs of slitting- cutters 30, 45 by pairs of devices each comprising a holding-in wheel 68 and a guidewheel 44, which is provided with points or teeth adapted to enter between two warp threads in the cloth. The cutters are fixed upon their shafts, and the arms 34 supporting the guidewheels are pivoted on a shaft 10. In a modification, single cutters are used: the cutters are adjustable on their shafts, being merely splined thereto and can be moved along these shafts by moving the guide-wheel supporting- arms which are provided with forks embracing the cutters. The guide-wheel supporting-arms after adjustment, are secured to the shaft 10 by screws, the shafts being free to pivot in its bearings. If used with perfectly woven cloth, each alternate guiding-wheel may be removed.
