Drawings to Specification Reservoir pens.-Hard rubber washers are rendered soft and impervious to the acids of ink, in order that they may he used as a packing for the pistons of reservoir pens. by subjecting them to the action of an oily substance at a high temperature and maintaining the high temperature until the pores of the washer are impregnated with the oily substance. A vegetable oil, such as linseed oil, is preferred, and the temperature should be increased in stages. After the treatment with the oil, the washers are immersed in molten paraffin wax, whereby a protective coating is applied which prevents evaporation of the oil from the surface of the rubber and makes the washers work more smoothly in the barrel of the pen.
