Abstract

8167. Feeny, V. F., [Winkler, Fallert, et Cie]. April 4. Sheet-separators; sheet-carriers; pile supports; delivery apparatus.-In a machine for gathering and stacking sheets of paper of the kind in which the sheets &c. are taken bv suction devices 8 and passed to revolving grippers 24, which forward them to a piling- band 56, 57, the sheet piles are arranged in two rows, each with its own improved separating and other devices, sheets from the upper row passing down a guide 47 to the piling-band, in conjunction with which are longitudinal and transverse knocking-up devices 74, 82. The piles are supported on tables 1 between guides 2, 3, and the bottom sheet or signature in each pile is pulled down as shown in Fig. 3 by the suction arm 8, which is pivoted on a tube 11 and operated by cams &c. from the shaft 20. Separating-fingers 40 on a bar 41 carried by levers 42 operated by cams 46 and lifted by levers 48, 49 then pass under and lift the piles, so that the separated sheets may be drawn out by grippers 24 on revolving drums 9. All the grippers 24 in one row are mounted on a single shaft 23 operated by a cam-piece 33, which engages fixed stops, the grippers being held in open or closed position by a spring 31 and toggle mechanism. The grippers work against yielding spring-pressed stops 22 so as to grip firmly varying thicknesses of sheet, withdraw them from the piles, and finally deposit them on the band, which is formed in two parts 56, 57 having stops 72, with which shifting stops 74 operated by a cam 75 on the shaft 20 co-operate to even up the sheets each time the piles are brought to rest. The sheets are knocked up transversely by the fixed stops 81 and the cam-operated bar 82.
