Shuttles having a threading-slot A, Figs. 1 and 2, and a cavity B, into which the weaver's finger is inserted to push the weft through the eye C, are provided with a drag-pin D, having an extension d crossing the slot A, and with a thread-retaining pin E<1> projecting across the slot A. An additional thread-retaining pin E may pass under the pin D. A slotted plate F, Fig. 8, or two pins f<3>, Fig. 12, may he arranged in the cavity B adjacent to the end of the slot A, and the plate F may be provided with a weak spring arranged to increase the drag on the weft. A thread eyelet may be secured rigidly to the plate F, or may be so secured in the shuttle that it can be pressed outwards through the eye C to facilitate the threading operation. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 12, the drag-pin is arranged near the back of the recess B instead of near the eye C. Fig. 4 shows a modification, in which there are two drag-pins D, D<1> connected together, this arrangement enabling the weft to be passed round either drag-pin, according to the tension required.
