Abstract

4683. Soennecken, F., [Firm of]. April 26, 1911, [Convention date]. Roller copying-presses; stopping, starting, and like arrangements.-The mechanism requiring to be operated intermittently, for example the feed device for the documents, the severing- device for the copying - strip, the device for printing the notice ' copied,' &c., is automatically controlled from the document or from the copying-strip, which acts to throw the required mechanism into gear at the required intervals. The documents p, fed over a table t, pass together with the copying-strip s between the press rolls c, d, the strip then passing the severing-blade u<1> actuated by a crank disk u. A pivoted feeler a rests on the document where it passes over a gap t<1> in the table, and is thus supported with the lug e in the path of a lug f on a frictionally driven disk g gearing by a band with the disk u. When the document passes clear of the feeler, this falls and releases the disk g, which then rotates, causing a wiper h<1> carried by a spring h to feed the next document, driving the cutter disk u, and, by means of a catch i thereon engaging the lug e, raising the feeler to re-engage the lug f when the disk has completed a revolution. In a modification, the feeler consists of electric contacts which, when a document passes clear complete a circuit through an electro - magnet to withdraw a pivoted armature out of engagement with a frictionally driven disk. In another modification, the feeler consists of a pivoted spring- controlled bell-crank bearing on the document opposite a groove in a guide roller behind the press rolls and also engaging a lug in a frictionally driven disk. When the document passes clear, the feeler rises into the groove and releases the friction disk, a cam on which returns the feeler into locking engagement. In another modification, the feeler, comprising an electric contact, bears on the copying-strip, which is perforated at required intervals to permit a circuit to be completed for releasing a frictionally driven disk, which intermittent actuation of the required mechanism is affected as before.
