Abstract

4395. Caddy, S. C. Feb. 21. Jackets and covers.-Closely coiled helical springs c are arranged obliquely some distance apart in a rubber or other band a, which is embedded in the tyre cover during manufacture, is used to repair an old cover, or is inserted loosely, or secured inside a cover. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the oblique springs c are arranged over circumferential springs b in a band comprising canvas layers f, h, j, l and rubber layers g, i, k, m. Two or more layers of circumferential springs in staggered relation and two or more layers of oppositely inclined oblique springs may be used. The springs may be secured in place by thread or wire stitching. The circumferential springs may be arranged at the tread only, at the sides only, or both at the tread and sides of the band. The springs may be covered with rubber tubes or other coverings which combine with the band when it is vulcanized.
