3101. Tracy, W. H. H. Feb. 7. Ironing-machines with endless aprons.-A machine for drying and ironing collars and cuffs comprises a series of drying- rollers, over which passes a pair of endless belts conveying the work, and a table on which the work is deposited from these rollers and from which it passes to a pair of ironing-rollers. The rollers are mounted on shafts in a frame and rotated by gearwheels engaging in pairs from a pinion on a pulley shaft. The bolts are kept taut by rollers 21, 28 supported by them and moving freely in vertical guides in the frame. The work is placed on the straight portion 38 of the lower belt and passes between the two belts over the drying-rollers in turn until they separate, when it is carried on the lower belt between rollers 25, 26 to the table 39 and ironing- rollers 40, 41. Live steam is supplied to the rollers by pipes 42, 43, 44, and the exhaust steam passes off by a large pipe surrounding the pipe 44 and exhaust pipes 53, 54. The rollers may alternatively be heated by gas or electricity. Gear is provided for rotating the rollers 25, 26, 40, 41, in unison with the remaining rollers. The conveyer belts may be formed of a body portion of felt and a covering facing of linen or cotton.
