Abstract

1727. Kastowsky, L., and Rybak, E. Jan. 22. Track apparatus actuating signals other than on trains and for stopping trains. - Trainstopping ramps b, d are pivotally mounted on the track in front of the home and distant signals. The former is raised into trainstopping position by a cord a, cam h, and weight r whenever the signal is put to danger. The latter is raised only when a train passes over a lever c at a time when the home signal is at danger. When the home signal is put to ' safety,' the movement of the cord a is in part transmitted to a cam l, the other part being dissipated in a lost-motion connexion between the chain pulley and the cam; and the lever c is moved into a horizontal position by the fore part of the cam l. When the home signal falls to danger, the cam l runs back until stopped bv the engagement of the lever c with the end of the rear part of the cam. This movement is transmitted to the cam o, which is thereby raised to the position shown. If a train passes over the lever while in this inclined position, the lever is depressed and the cam l released. Thereupon the weight s causes the cam l to rotate, and, owing to the previous movement having been in the same direction, no further movement is lost, and the cam o is rotated to bring the abutment d into train-stopping position. The parts are returned to their normal positions when the signals are returned to ' safety.' An additional semaphore u is operated from a pulley connected to the cam o through a pin-and-slot device which allows the cam o to move downwards from the position shown, in which the semaphore u is at safety without further movement of the semaphore.
