Abstract

1377. Gotfredsen, A. Jan. 24, 1911, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Section 91 of the Act]. Turning - gear. - I n spring turning - gear, during the initial drive by the spring, a valve is moved to admit exhaust gases to one side of a piston which closes a winding-clutch; at the end of winding, the valve is reversed and the piston returns to its normal position. The spring is attached to the casing and the hub 9 of an internally-toothed wheel 8. To start the motor, a lever. 36 normally held by a spring 34 imparts axial movement to a shaft 3 carrying an internally-toothed wheel 14 on which a friction r i n g 16 is mounted. The drive is through the wheel 8, pinions 10, 13, a ratchet clutch 28, and a wheel 29 fast on the motor shaft or on a shaft 64 connected thereto. During the forward rotation, the screwed end on the spindle 11 of the pinion 10 turns in a nut 40, which moves longitudinally. The nut bears against a lever 48, which is pivoted on two plates 43, and which carries two links 51 connected to a spring-pressed block 52 on a rod 53 attached to the valve 57. The outward movement of the nut throws over the valve, and exhaust gases enter by the port 60 to the right side of the piston 20. The piston is prevented from rotating by a pin 22, and is mounted on the hub of a wheel 17, on which is one part of a cone clutch, the other part being on the wheel 29. At the end of the spring drive, the piston and wheel 17 are moved to the left bv the exhaust gases, the two wheels 17, 29 interlock, and the spring is wound through these wheels, a pinion 19 on the hub of the wheel 17, a pinion 24 on the piston, the internally-toothed wheel 14, the shaft 3, and the gear-wheels at the right-hand end of the apparatus. While the spring is wound, the nut 40 is moved back to its original place, the valve is reversed, and the piston returns to the position shown, forcing the ring into engagement with a cone surface 25 on the casing. The spring 34, through the wheel 14 and a one-way clutch, keeps the ring 16 in this position, and the driving - spring wound up.
